Enable dark mode in Google Docs on a Chromebook

Open Google Chrome on your Chromebook.

In the address bar, type chrome://flags and press Enter.

Search for “dark mode” using the search box.

Locate the “Auto Dark Mode for Web Contents” flag.

Enable this flag by selecting “Enabled.”

Relaunch Chrome when prompted.

Visit the Google Docs website.

You’ll notice that the page color is now black, and the font color is white.

Alternatively, you can download a Google Docs dark mode extension from the Chrome Store1.

Open Google Docs and click the jigsaw icon next to the search bar in Chrome.

Choose the dark mode extension to enable it.

For Android or iPhone, the Google Docs app follows systemwide dark mode settings.

If you want dark mode only for Google Docs, open the app and tap the three-line menu icon.

Go to “Settings” and select “Choose theme.”

Pick “Dark,” “Light,” or “System default” as your theme
