Funko Fusion Game Review : A Disappointing Adventure for Fans

Funko Fusion Game Review : Funko Fusion has made its debut, but my review took a little longer than expected. Why? Well, my review code didn’t arrive until just a day before the release. But the real reason? Playing this games felt more like a chore than a joy. Here’s why.

The Good Stuff

First, let’s start with the positives. Funko Fusion looks great! The developers have done an amazing job capturing the charm of Funko Pops. The worlds feel like a playful playground, and each character looks like a toy come to life. The vibrant colors and cute designs will definitely catch the eye of any fan.

It’s also a smart move to showcase characters from various franchises, like the Universal Monsters and some lesser-known pop culture icons. This adds depth and excitement for fans who enjoy exploring beyond the usual Funko Pop aisle.

The Not-So-Good Stuff

Now, let’s dive into the issues. The biggest problem with Funko Fusion is that it feels lost. It doesn’t really know what kind of game it wants to be. Is it a kids’ adventure game? It has characters like Chucky, which might scare younger players. Is it for adults? The gameplay is so basic that it quickly becomes boring.

When I booted up the game, I decided to explore the Scott Pilgrim world. I love Scott Pilgrim, but even this fun universe felt flat. After a quick intro, I found myself in the hub, only to be forced to play as Scott to progress. Sure, I was bashing enemies and solving puzzles, but it all felt lifeless. The combat was frustrating, with enemies popping up everywhere, and I never felt any connection to what was happening on screen.

Another glaring issue is the lack of dialogue. Many of the films featured, like Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and Hot Fuzz, are known for their witty scripts. However, the game’s cutscenes lack personality and charm. Fans of these films may find it hard to connect with the game when it fails to capture their essence.

I also tried the He-Man levels, thinking it couldn’t possibly go wrong. Unfortunately, it was more of the same: dull combat and uninspired animations. The variety of characters doesn’t make up for the lack of engaging gameplay.

The overall story is cliché and uninspired. Funko Freddy, who runs the Funko factory, is attacked by goop that turns into an evil version named Eddy. You’re sent on a quest through disconnected worlds to find crowns to save Freddy. It feels like a missed opportunity.

Technical Issues

There are several technical problems too. Items float randomly in levels, cutscenes start and end abruptly, and I often felt lost without guidance on what to do. To top it off, I encountered multiple crashes during gameplay.

Comparing Funko Fusion to LEGO games reveals another layer of disappointment. In LEGO games, breaking objects produces satisfying animations and sounds, while here, the items just wobble and spit out plastic without any flair.

Conclusion

In the end, Funko Fusion feels like it was created without a clear vision or an understanding of fun. As someone who loves Funko Pops, I had high hopes for this game. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a forgettable release that misses the mark on delivering an enjoyable experience.
